United Way of the Bay Area Wins Competitive IRS Grant

Monday, November 10th, 2008

Earn It! Keep It! Save It! (EKS) is a United Way of the Bay Area-led coalition that coordinates over 160 free tax preparation sites serving low-to-moderate income families and individuals in the seven county Bay Area (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, Solano, San Francisco and San Mateo counties).  Since the program’s inception in 2003, it has served 114,344 individuals and families, helping them file their taxes and claim over $107,013,330 in federal refunds.  Millions of dollars have been returned to clients and the local economy as a result of the hard work and dedication of thousands of volunteers and hundreds of community based organizations. On November 10, 2008, the IRS announced a $310,000 grant to the United Way of the Bay Area to expand EKS. The Glen Price Group was delighted to support the development of this grant application.

Glide Foundation Receives Funding for Youth Workforce Development

Sunday, November 9th, 2008

The Glide Foundation learned in early November that it would receive an award of $271, 973 from the San Francisco Department of Children Youth and their Families (DCYF) for the FY 2008-2009 Youth Workforce Development Expansion program.  The award is particularly gratifying for Glide, given the level of competition with other well-established youth-serving organizations for these funds.

The Youth Workforce Development Expansion program, developed by DCYF in partnership with the Mayor’s Office of Economic and Workforce Development, is focused on serving high needs young people ages 16 through 17 in San Francisco.  This population is defined as those who are often disconnected from services and do not access workforce programs and community supports, particularly those who are living in public housing, in foster care, or involved with the juvenile justice system.

This new stream of funding will enable Glide to expand the services offered to younger youth through its nationally recognized Youthbuild program, which combines rigorous education and construction training with case management and leadership development opportunities.  The Glen Price Group was pleased to have the opportunity to provide proposal development services for this exciting program.

New Date for 21st Century Community Learning Center Workshop

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

The California Department of Education (CDE) has released the 21st Century Community Learning Center High School Request for Applications (RFA) and the Elementary/Middle RFA is expected soon.  In preparation, the Bay Area Partnership has asked the Glen Price Group to facilitate a grantwriting workshop on November 10, 2008, from 9:30 am to 1 pm in Oakland. To register, please complete and return the registration form.

This is a good opportunity to apply for new after school, expanded after school and, in some cases, summer/intersession funding for elementary, middle and high schools that are Title 1 eligible (40% or more free and reduced lunch eligible students.)  School districts, charter schools, cities and counties, and community-based and faith-based organizations may apply in partnership with their local school district (or local educational authority).
